What does hajj mean?
Hajj in the dictionary means to turn to visit. Hajj is a religious term; It is to stand in Arafat and circumambulate the Kaaba by wearing a veil called ihram on certain days of the year (in the month of Dhul-Hijjah in the lunar months). A person who visits these sacred places at certain times is called a pilgrim.
Why is pilgrimage done?
Every believer aims to gain the pleasure of Allah. One way to gain the consents is to follow the orders He gave through his prophets and to avoid his prohibitions. God’s orders are to direct people to the good, the good and the right, and the prohibitions from the evil deeds. Thus, it is to make people happy by making them have high morals.
We are grateful for the blessings He has given, as we earn His love by fulfilling God’s commands. Because God is the only being worthy of love, respect, and worship.
Hajj, one of the five basic conditions of Islam, is a worship performed with both goods and body. It is obligatory for those who are in good financial condition to perform the pilgrimage once in their lifetime. Almighty Allah said in the Quran: “In it, there are clear signs and the station of Abraham;80 whoever enters it becomes secure.” Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by all who can make their way to it. As for those who refuse to follow His command, surely Allah does not stand in need of anything..” (Ali Imran Surah verse 97). Our Prophet regarded hajj as one of the five principles of Islam and taught Muslims by practicing it personally.
Who must perform Hajj?
It is obligatory for a Muslim who can afford, rich and healthy, to make a pilgrimage once in his life. For hajj to be obligatory for a person, it must meet the following conditions:
1- To be free, mature, and smart
2- Having enough time to go to and from the pilgrimage
3- Having provided for his family until he went on pilgrimage
4- Being rich enough to cover the necessary expenses
5- Being healthy
6- Have road safety
There are many material and spiritual benefits of hajj. Some of these are those;
A Muslim who goes on a pilgrimage will be grateful for the blessings of the world, such as body health and wealth that Allah has given him.
Muslims from different countries meet and meet and exchange information and engage in commercial relations. Hajj causes people to be forgiven for other sins other than people’s rights. For this, they pray for the forgiveness of their sins. They promise God not to do an evil deed again, to be honest and moral. The pilgrimage helps establish brotherhood among the people of various Muslim countries. It is more easily understood on the pilgrimage that the religion of Islam is a religion of unity and solidarity.
During the hajj season, the Kaaba resembles the place of Armageddon. The Muslim who performs the pilgrimage will understand how empty and meaningless the bad deeds done for the interests of the world.
We know that travel is very beneficial for human health. People are even recommended traveling to get rid of mental distress. Allah also recommended traveling around the Quran. Those who go on pilgrimage naturally make this journey. The fact that all pilgrims are white and in the same type of ihram regardless of color, race, and professional help to establish the idea of equality. Pilgrimage is a worship with universal dimensions as it leads to the development of feelings of acquaintance, convergence, unity and solidarity, solidarity, and brotherhood among the Muslims of the world.
